Woke up this morning and saw this news in my timeline.
First of all, I feel what Eugene Domingo is trying to say. I’m much more guilty in those things but somehow there’s a reason why some filipinos do not (or some of them) watch local movies in the cinemas.
●QUALITY Filipino Movies are never advertised properly (di masyadong na isasapublico kagaya ng mga walang kwentang chick flick)
Example, the movie “Sonata”, the reason I know about this movie was because I saw it in an article in the newspaper (and I rarely read the paper) but that was the only ad or publicity it had. One news article, one poster, maybe a billboard (pero ang bilis nawala).
●The good ones are never given much importance and priority as much as the crappy and mainstream ones.
Ever wonder why some prefer indie films? Why some would rather buy the pirated dvds or download rather that go and pay for the movie? …because we feel that its not worth of what we have to pay and the energy we have to spend.
Foreign movies are advertised almost as much as you need to breath (maybe because they payed for it that much?)
●most of the ones given mass advertising are almost those movies that have nothing to show other than people stealing each others partner (sampalan, landian at kung ano-ano pa) and some book-based movies staring no talent actors (so basically, why watch such when you’ve watch one, you’ve watched all), with sucky plot (sad to say). Not to mention all looks, no talent whoever person staring in the movie.
This is like reading those romance novels (may it be foreign or local), you’ve read one, you’ve read all (but some people still read them). So why bother go to the cinemas to watch the next 20 or so movie, when they have the same storyline and plot.
Some people want diversity, they want something with substance (maybe not all, well at least for me) and for others, they just want no brainers or sometimes drama (di pa na kontento sa drama ng buhay nila).
Other times we go to the cinema to watch something that will lighten up our day (so definitely not the mistress and landian movie in mind), and relieve our weekly stress ( maybe not the mass majority, but some).
●we were breed to like/love anything foreign (lets face it, that’s how things have been ever since). It’s in our nature (must be a colonial after-effect?)
American this, american that…imported this, imported that.
● and lastly (I think)…
Local Movies, cost more than foreign movies in the cinemas.
I don’t go to the cinemas that often (don’t like crowded places), but when checking the movie prices, you can actually compare it and see that it cost more to watch a local movie than to watch Avengers or other Marvel movies…
…and the show was the mistress-thingy-movie (as most of the recent and upcoming movies story had been).
Anyway, as conclusion (now it sounds like some paper I’m about to pass in class), I love Eugene Domingo, my sisters and I and even my Aunt in the US, love watching her movies and always feel excited when we hear she has a new movie. She’s good (very talented) and always gives something different but satisfying (there’s a word for this, but I can’t seem to find it) feeling in her movies. The comedies are always funny and not too overrated. But not just in comedy but also in other movies with a different genre.
So much to say but words escape me…and I have to get to class. Have a nice day everyone. Hopefully, I will be able to see this movie.
